Searching for Tree Ghost volunteers

This Wednesday 25 of September 2019 there will be a demonstration in The Hague The Netherlands  against the deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. For this occasion I would like to make a few ''Tree Ghost'' sculptures (see photos) that could be carried around by volunteers during the demonstration. The sculptures need to be made on the bodies of people to fit right. People who are interested can contact me at info (ad) jeroenhuisman.com. Of course it is necessary that you like to be present on the demonstration.

BREAKING - a complete continent found on a single Apple.

BREAKING - a complete continent, with a rich set of islands, has been found on an single Apple. Scientists have called this amazing discovery "Elstar". It is said that the surface conditions may not be as unlivable as the color suggests. Large quantities of nutrition has been tracked with foodscanners, including water, Vitamin A, Beta carotene, Lutein zeaxanthin, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin Pantothenic acid, Folic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc, Fluoride and Phosphor. Rumours have spread that several people already volunteered in a program to explore the situation on the ground. Within five years time it should be possible to establish the first iron and magnesium expeditions to Elstar's surface, scientists say.

The first public exhibition of the completed Fundamentum Plastoid light sculpture

During the Stadtpartie art-festival in Einbeck (May 2019) many visitors, young and old, came down the stairway into the ancient basement under the Schrader Paint-shop in the Baustrasse, leaving many of them in astonishment about the unexpected scenery they were facing. Also the major of the city of Einbeck, Dr. Sabine Michalek, paid the light sculpture a visit, accompanied by the director of Stadtmuseum Einbeck, Dr. Elke Heege.

The light sculpture is rather hard to photograph, due to the high contrast light situation, but many visitors gave it a try with their mobile phones. Here you can see some of them.

A reaction of fellow artist Anna Diandi on Instagram;

This is a part of "Acts of capriciousness - the family of plastoids " by Jeroen Huisman - an inspiring, exceptional and humorous artist. @stadtpartieeinbeck meanders a light-filled organism under the ceiling of an old vaulted cellar; with the company of two fantastic "larvae" and a newly emerging "plastoid", visitors will discover a kind of new being. You have to visit it! Or find him under : www.jeroenhuisman.com . . . . . . . . . . . #jeroenhuisman #stadtpartieeinbeck #art #dutchartist #lichtskulptur #familyofplastoids #artist #exhebition

Invitation ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS - The Basement Plastoid in Einbeck (D) - April 30 - May 5 2019.

ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS - The Basement Plastoid

Dear contact,

You are cordially invited to visit the first public presentation of ''The Basement Plastoid'', a thermoplastic light sculpture I have been working on from 2017 until coming week. The sculpture is 8 meter long and currently the longest work I ever made and is situated in a private basement in the German city of Einbeck (near Kassel).
Some are speaking about it as ''The New Jewel Of Einbeck''!

You also can be part of a new ''Turrim Plastoid'' performance, a vertical shell-like structure I will build on the spot.

Hope to meet you there!

Time; April 30 - May 5 2019 | 11.00 - 18.00 hrs.

Place; The basement of Paintshop Farben-Schrader, Baustrasse 5 in Einbeck (D). Entrance via Schaeferstrasse (around the corner).

Event; StadtpARTie festival Einbeck (D).

Following the local fire brigade rules there are no more than 5 people allowed in the basement at once.

ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS | The Basement Plastoid | 2017 - 2019
Ever since I began working with the glue gun as a tool to research ''auto generative drawing and building'', a method in which I explore the creation of handmade organic 3D structures, many omnifarious works came about, most of them looking like unknown deep sea creatures. These creatures, build around massive amounts of plastic waste, moulded in a form with heat, first appeared during an installation I build back in 2015, called ''Virtual Landfill'' in Bergen (NL). Virtual Landfill consisted of a wooden shed where people could bring their plastic waste. In return I would use this plastic as crude matter for art works. It is here where the first members of ''The Family Of Plastoids'' were created.

During the Denkmal Kunst festival in Einbeck in 2017 my working place was a basement under the local paint shop. In this unique and ancient vaulted cellar the first experiments for a large scale thermoplast light sculpture took off. Between November 2017 and April 2019 I visited the place several times to work. The result is a 8 meter long light sculpture which seems to bulg like lava from the wall. The multifaceted and versatile forms within the body of the sculpture, which is reminiscent of mushrooms and fungi, but also of anemones and the like, is full of detail, and were created using a method of ''auto generative drawing''; while adding themoplastic material my hand would move in circles, layer over layer. By concentrating on imperfect moves, all kinds of irratic structures arise. In these forms there are clear similarities of the building practices we see in nature.

The Basement Plastoid was not made using a building plan, other than following some cracks in the wall.

ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS - The Basement Plastoid is dedicated to my parents, Henk en Marian Huisman.

One of my last moves in the working space...

Unfortunately, my 1600 m2 (!) of working space will soon end to exist. The background in this video will vanish in one month's time. Big machines will eat it till the ground. So now: On the search for new spaces!

Introducing the wearable Tree Ghost sculpture

I will wear this piece as a performance, during a demonstration against the cutting of trees in the city center of Arnhem, the city where I live. Throughout the Netherlands 10.000 of hectares of trees are cut down for biomass use during the last few years. This needs to stop!

Here are some photos of the happening that took place in Arnhem (NL) on March 13th 2019.
Despite the rain and the cold about 100 people, of which several artists, took the opportunity to show their rejection of deforestation.

Working period in Einbeck Germany

From February 2 till 8 2019 I have been working on my light sculpture "Fundamentum (Basement) Plastoid" right under the Schrader Paintshop in the Baustrasse in Einbeck (D). The venue is an ancient classical basement with a perfect atmosphere for a sculpture like this. In 2017 the work started and every once in a while I return to continue working.

This period I worked on the end part of the sculpture of about 1 x 1 meter, in which I included a piece (Rursum Aliud Operimentum Plastoid 2018) I made for the exhibition "Islands'' in B53 in Arnhem, The Netherlands. The total length of "Basement Plastoid" will be about 8 meters. In Marz and April the work will be in finishing stage. The opening will take place during the StadpArtie festival in Einbeck in May 2019.
