Invitation ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS - The Basement Plastoid in Einbeck (D) - April 30 - May 5 2019.

ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS - The Basement Plastoid

Dear contact,

You are cordially invited to visit the first public presentation of ''The Basement Plastoid'', a thermoplastic light sculpture I have been working on from 2017 until coming week. The sculpture is 8 meter long and currently the longest work I ever made and is situated in a private basement in the German city of Einbeck (near Kassel).
Some are speaking about it as ''The New Jewel Of Einbeck''!

You also can be part of a new ''Turrim Plastoid'' performance, a vertical shell-like structure I will build on the spot.

Hope to meet you there!

Time; April 30 - May 5 2019 | 11.00 - 18.00 hrs.

Place; The basement of Paintshop Farben-Schrader, Baustrasse 5 in Einbeck (D). Entrance via Schaeferstrasse (around the corner).

Event; StadtpARTie festival Einbeck (D).

Following the local fire brigade rules there are no more than 5 people allowed in the basement at once.

ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS | The Basement Plastoid | 2017 - 2019
Ever since I began working with the glue gun as a tool to research ''auto generative drawing and building'', a method in which I explore the creation of handmade organic 3D structures, many omnifarious works came about, most of them looking like unknown deep sea creatures. These creatures, build around massive amounts of plastic waste, moulded in a form with heat, first appeared during an installation I build back in 2015, called ''Virtual Landfill'' in Bergen (NL). Virtual Landfill consisted of a wooden shed where people could bring their plastic waste. In return I would use this plastic as crude matter for art works. It is here where the first members of ''The Family Of Plastoids'' were created.

During the Denkmal Kunst festival in Einbeck in 2017 my working place was a basement under the local paint shop. In this unique and ancient vaulted cellar the first experiments for a large scale thermoplast light sculpture took off. Between November 2017 and April 2019 I visited the place several times to work. The result is a 8 meter long light sculpture which seems to bulg like lava from the wall. The multifaceted and versatile forms within the body of the sculpture, which is reminiscent of mushrooms and fungi, but also of anemones and the like, is full of detail, and were created using a method of ''auto generative drawing''; while adding themoplastic material my hand would move in circles, layer over layer. By concentrating on imperfect moves, all kinds of irratic structures arise. In these forms there are clear similarities of the building practices we see in nature.

The Basement Plastoid was not made using a building plan, other than following some cracks in the wall.

ACTS OF CAPRICIOUSNESS - The Basement Plastoid is dedicated to my parents, Henk en Marian Huisman.

One of my last moves in the working space...

Unfortunately, my 1600 m2 (!) of working space will soon end to exist. The background in this video will vanish in one month's time. Big machines will eat it till the ground. So now: On the search for new spaces!

March 19 2019 - The last photo of the exhibition ''Birth Of A Plastoid - Mainz Version''.

March 19 2019 - Today I took down the exhibition ''Birth of A Plastoid - Mainz Version'', which was on display in the shop window of Walpodenacademie in Mainz. Thanks Bernd, Tanja and Stefan for the hospitality and the ''gallery-bed'' during my stays!
