March - April / BABYDAY & ARNHEMSE HERRIE (NOISE FROM ARNHEM) - VJ work

Arnhem Noise (Arnhemse Herrie) - Celebration of 42 years of popmusic in Willemeen, Arnhem (NL)

Since the late 1980s, together with my collaborator Egon Pieko, I have been fascinated by the raw energy of live music and the ways in which visual projection can transform a performance into a shared sensory experience. During the BABYDAY era at Willemsplein 1 in Arnhem—later known as Willemeen—we developed a visual language built from analogue tools: Super 8 film loops, handmade slides, colored foils, glue, ink, and the unpredictable magic of early copy‑shop technology.

These materials were never neutral. They carried the texture of the city, the imperfections of the machines, and the spontaneity of hands-on experimentation. Our live projection environments responded to the music in real time—fluid, improvised, and deeply physical. The visuals were not backgrounds; they were living elements within the performance.

For the 42-year anniversary of pop music at this historic venue, we returned to this spirit of experimentation. Over the course of March and April, I created a five-hour sequence of associative video works—seven pieces designed for live VJ performance. Although digital tools have replaced the projectors and film reels of the past, the underlying approach remains the same: layering, distortion, rhythm, and the search for imagery that resonates with sound.

My practice is rooted in the belief that visual art can amplify the emotional architecture of music. Whether analogue or digital, my work continues to explore how images can move, breathe, and collide—creating moments that exist only in the present, yet echo long after the lights fade.

January and February 2026 – work resumed on my sound studio.

Since 2024, I’ve been working on and off on a sound studio in the attic of my workshop — a quiet space suspended inside another, a room floating within a room. For a while now, the project has been resting in a state of pause, somewhere between layers of insulation and the beginnings of a ventilation system.

Entropy Therapy - a means to break away from logic

Entropy Therapy - 2021 - 50 x 50 cm x 1,5 mm
Thermoplastic material applied directly to glass.

These kind of sculptures are the thinnest I made up till now, with their 1.5 mm thickness, and are part of my exercises in approaching natural processes and tissues. It is a state of creating as much entropy as possible with very little consciousness, as in a meditation. With my 3D pen I draw these amorphous shapes directly to glass.

Years ago I created such structures with oil paint on canvas and with the use of a airbrush technique. The underlying idea remains the same: to break away from formal language determined by human reasoning, and to try to reach the capillaries of the natural world that surrounds us.

Work ''Ad Meridiem Plastoid'' sold!

One of my latest light sculptures with title ''Ad Meridiem Plastoid'' has been sold! It is aproximately 70 cms wide and 12 cm ''thick'' and part of the ever growing Family of Plastoids.

The sculpture's interior is made of plastic waste interwoven with LED lights. The outer shell is modeled with hot glue and a 3D pen.

Here are some fast shots. Difference in color is due to different camera's:

primordial soup soundscapes (Oersoep Soundscapes) - Februari 1 2025 - Lombok Utrecht (NL)

On 1 February 2026 Patrick Bossink, Hans de Wolf and Jeroen Huisman performed their primordial soup sound installation. The event took place in Patricks house in the middle of the neighborhood Lombok in Utrecht (NL), during the festival Peeking At The Neighbors (Gluren Bij De Buren).

8 different sound sources merged into a soft spatial ambience, in which Patrick, Hans and Jeroen acted as Sound Jockeys, resulting in a calming and hypnotic atmosphere at the same time.

Immediately after entering the house, the public was ordered to wipe their feet on the doormat, which was audibly amplified and delayed via contact microphones (Hans).

Once up the stairs, the audience entered a room with a diverse sound, but balanced in such a way that you had to investigate with your ears to find out where it was coming from.

The actual primordial soup was contained in three glass "Dame Jeanne" bottles containing fermenting liquids with airlocks. The sound of the fermentation process triggered electronic effects (Patrick, Hans).

In addition, delayed bird sounds could be heard from the Birding Apparatus installation, which attempts to reproduce dinosaur sounds (Jeroen).

On the other side of the room, the Nature Receiver installation (Jeroen) reproduced sounds from tropical rainforests, balanced with static noise from an AM receiver next to it.

And, last but not least, Patrick compiled a digital echo well which recorded the sound in the room and added an extra layer of sound.
